You bought the AI tool. Nobody uses it. $200/month, quietly draining your budget while your team works exactly the same way it did before.
You're not tech-stupid. You're just being sold tools without being taught what to watch for after you deploy them.
Forbes ran a piece this week on something called "AI agent drift." Here's the plain-English version: AI tools don't fail loudly. They drift quietly. A 1% error in an automated process sounds harmless until that process runs 10,000 times. By then, the damage is done and nobody caught it.
This is the real problem most business owners miss. It's not which AI tool you pick. It's whether anyone is actually checking if it's still working correctly three months later. Most aren't. Most consultants are long gone by then.
The one thing you can do right now costs nothing: before buying any AI tool, ask the vendor one question — "What does failure look like in 90 days, and how will I know?" If they can't answer clearly, walk away.
That single question has saved my clients more money than any feature comparison ever did.
What's the biggest red flag you've seen from an AI vendor or consultant who oversold and then disappeared?
