Here's something the AI industry doesn't want you to notice: the pricing model was always working against you. You paid whether the tool delivered or not. All the risk sat on your side of the table.
That's starting to change. Companies like Zendesk and Intercom are shifting to outcome-based pricing — you only pay when the AI actually resolves a customer issue. Vendor gets paid when it works. Vendor goes home empty when it doesn't. That's a completely different game.
This matters for you right now. When you're evaluating any AI tool, ask one question before anything else: "Do I pay if this doesn't perform?" If the answer is no, walk away. That single filter eliminates most of the risk that burned you before.
