Your accountant bill isn't the problem. Not knowing which problems AI can actually solve — that is.
A new AI accounting startup just raised $840K specifically to give small businesses an "AI accountant." Sounds exciting. Also sounds like every other AI tool pitch you've heard before.
Here's the difference worth noting. Accounting is one of the few business functions where AI has a clear, measurable job to do — categorize transactions, flag anomalies, produce reports. The output is either right or wrong. You know within days if it's working.
That's the lens you want when evaluating any AI tool. Not "is this impressive?" but "can I measure whether it worked in 30 days?" If the answer is no, walk away. Most tools fail the business owner because nobody defined what success looks like before the invoice hit.
You don't need a ripped-apart operation or a new tech stack. You need one problem with a measurable outcome, and an AI tool built specifically for that problem.
Start there. Just there.
What's one business task you're currently paying too much time or money for — and have you found an AI tool that actually moved the needle on it?
